Regeneratively Grown and Ethically Foraged

What does regeneratively grown mean to us? The garden is, first and foremost, habitat: a home, food source, and means of life for children, insects, soil microbes, birds, and most of all, the plants themselves. The garden is a place where life is supported. Native pollinators and healthy, bioactive soil are the foundations of this life.

Our principles are in, short, to interplant with natives, to keep the soil covered with compost, mulch or straw, not to use synthetic fertilizer or herbicides, and to leave the “mess” that supports insect life.

Native plants used in our products are cultivated in the garden, never foraged wild. Our pine sap is collected from trees that have already been wounded.

Sources

Our formulas are simple, in the tradition of western folk herbalism. Sources include writings from Susun Weed, Rosalee deLaForet and Richo Cech, occasional findings on PubMed, courses from Commonwealth Herb School and Rosalee DelaForet, and most crucially, years of experimentation and daily contact with plants.

Grace

grace and worm

I moved to California in 2022 and fell in love with the plants here as soon as I arrived! I have the joy of living on a busy acreage that is home to many ecotypes and projects, including my acres of native gardens, olive oil and wine production, vegetables, fruit, and woods, as well as my own gardens. My passions are native plants and medicinal plants, though recently I have been focusing on perennial food crops. My favorite activity is catching bugs with my kids. I have a BA in biology from Reed College and some years of experience in research. I am currently studying for the Certified Professional Midwife credential. You can read my work on midwifery science here.

Sana Salve First Aid Balm
from $10.00

Sana Salve is the ultimate herbal first aid. Yarrow, pine pitch and calendula are antimicrobial and hemostatic, while comfrey is a powerful vulnerary healer. These are some of my favorite herbs to work with because their efficacy is so magical and humbling.

Wounds at particular risk of infection (such as puncture wounds or cat scratches) must be washed with alcohol or soap (never hydrogen peroxide) to prevent an abcess. For best results, apply Sana Salve  immediately and re-apply often. Not intended as a substitute for medical care.

Our herb-infused oils are made from “freshly dried” herbs hand-picked from the garden and dried in the sun for just a day or two before being being blended into oil. This creates powerfully medicinal oils with exceptional color and vibrancy.

Ingredients: Olive oil*, Comfrey*, Yarrow*, Calendula*, Pine pitch*, Organic bees wax

Cottonwood buds, produced in late winter, are resinous and contain a spectrum of salicylates, compounds closely related to aspirin. The medicine extracted from these buds is known to relieve pain from muscle aches, mastitis, eczema, and more. Heat can potentiate these effects.
